According to the Ugandan writer Allan Brian Ssenyonga in his article “Americanization or Globalization?”:
“Globalization is an umbrella term for a complex series of economic, social, technological, and political changes seen as increasing interdependence and interaction between people and companies in disparate locations.”
Some claim that globalization is in fact Americanization. Because America is spreading its values and companies abroad, our nation is spreading its influence. This phenomenon can also be called Westernization because other powerful Western countries spread their influence in similar ways. Thus, these economic, social, technological and political changes are mainly the effects of powerful core nations.
A differing opinion on Americanization can be found in Moises Naim’s “Think Again: Globalization” under the heading “Globalization No Longer Means Americanization.”
